Solar flame ionization detection (FID) comprise a range of rack mounted and portable FIDs for accurate, reliable measurement of Methane (CH4) only, Non-Methane (NMHC) & Total (THC) Hydrocarbons, and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs).


The Signal Solar Flame Ionization Detector product line is unique in the market with its precision machined, monobloc arrangement of ceramic isolated flame jet tip cylindrical collector and venturi effect air/fuel/sample design. This has produced reproducibility of production so that every analyzer has exactly the same characteristics. The need for this uniformity is important when measuring hydrocarbons as there are many different species in the measurement mix and barometric changes can be a problem. The monobloc design encompasses the hot oven, the heated filter, span/zero/cal valve and the optional heated sample pump. Thus, a very compact and leak proof design is provided. The sample pump uses a brushless DC motor and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coated diaphragm for total reliability and ease of maintenance.

We offer a heated 191C single FID for total hydrocarbon, a Methane-only single FID using a catalytic cutter to remove/convert all hydrocarbons except Methane, and a dual detector for continuous total hydrocarbons (THC), Methane (CH4) and non-methane (NMHC). We also offer a low cost, low temperature version for samples with low sample dew points.

Signal flame ionization analyzers (FIA) comply with the following certifications: QUAL1 BS EN 12619:2013 and USA-EPA 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 60 Method 25 & Part 503 Applications.

Solar Options:

  • Air purifier - internal catalytic (AS90) = Air supplied to units must be clean & zero-grade to avoid an offset & instability in readings; the AS90 is a heated catalytic type cleanup system for appropriately clean air as an alternative to using synthetic bottled air.
  • Front panel screen = Required for onboard logging capability; supplied with a 2GB USB memory stick, but can also be used with flash memory SD card.
  • Highest full-scale measurement = 10% (as methane) for non-cutter FIA / 4% as methane for FIA fitted with a cutter.
  • Moisture filter = Remove excess moisture to protect the longevity of an analyzer; recommended for saturated samples.
  • Pump for air - external = Provides FID-flame (burner) & zero calibration air supplies.
  • Pump for air - Internal = Provides FID-flame (burner) & zero calibration air supplies.
  • Pump for sample - external = Used when sample is not under positive pressure.
  • Pump for sample - internal = Used when sample is not under positive pressure.
  • Pure hydrogen fuel (in lieu of H2/He helifuel, which is better to minimize the effect of oxygen synergism & for combustion applications ) fuel = Reduces operating costs.
  • Upgraded outputs = Adds 20 contact closure alarm outputs to (standard) 3 fitted to all units; outputs can be used for alarms or to control external functions (such as down-the-line calibration where valves to introduce calibration gas at the sample inlet point can be controlled automatically).
